How to use

If a file is named .jpg but is actually HEIC inside, the format is detected from the file’s contents rather than its extension, shown in the file list as “Actual format: HEIC”, and converted as usual. Each result only changes the extension, as in photo.heic → photo.jpg, and several photos come as a single heic-converted.zip.
You can add up to 50 photos at a time. We recommend up to 20 MB per photo on desktop and 10 MB on mobile. Files over 60 MB each are not processed.

Options explained
- Output format
- Chooses whether you get JPG (default) or PNG. Pick JPG if it has to open anywhere, or PNG to keep a copy for editing without losing any more quality. PNG is a lossless format, so depending on the photo it can be much larger than JPG.
- Quality
- Sets how strongly JPG output is compressed, from 0 to 100. The default is 90, which favors image quality. Lower it if you need a smaller file. It isn't used for PNG.
- HEIC files with several images
- If one HEIC file holds several images, only the primary image is converted, with a note such as “Only the primary image (1 of 2) was converted”. The other images are not converted.
Frequently asked questions
Are my iPhone photos sent to a server?
No. HEIC conversion happens inside this browser and your files are never sent off your device. To check it yourself, follow the steps on the How it works page.
Why does the file get bigger after converting?
HEIC compresses more efficiently than JPG, so the same photo is usually larger as a JPG. The test file (HEIC, 21 KB) also became 28 KB as a JPG (quality 90). If you need it smaller, lower the quality, or shrink the converted JPG further with Compress Image or Resize Image.
Can my iPhone take photos as JPG in the first place?
Yes. Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible, and photos you take from then on are saved as JPG. HEIC photos you've already taken don't change, so convert them with this tool.
Can I convert Live Photos?
Only the still photo part of a Live Photo (HEIC) is converted to JPG. The motion part is a separate video file (MOV), so this tool doesn't convert it.
What happens to orientation and location data?
Rotation info is applied to the pixels, so photos taken in portrait are saved upright in portrait. Metadata such as shooting location (GPS) and device info is left out of the result. Colors are converted to sRGB, so photos taken in Display P3 may look slightly different.

- HEIC conversion runs inside this browser, and files are not sent to a server.
- Safari opens HEIC with its built-in decoder; other browsers use libheif (WebAssembly). For HEIC files with several images, only the primary image is converted.
- Rotation info is applied to the pixels, then all EXIF, GPS, XMP and IPTC metadata is removed.
- Colors are saved as sRGB. Display P3 photos may shift slightly in color.
