Split PDF

Pull out just the pages you need from a PDF, or split it into several files. Files never leave your device.

No upload · Processed in your browserPDF200 MB per file (recommended)As of 2026.09.30

Split method

Separate with commas. 8- means page 8 to the end.

How to use

  1. 1Drag and drop one PDF or pick it with [Choose files]. Page previews appear
  2. 2Choose how to split, enter page ranges (e.g. 1-3, 5, 8-), then press [Start]
  3. 3Save with [Download]. For several files, use [Download all (ZIP)] to get them in one go

The big number on the result card is the number of result files. Files split by range get the page range added to the original name, as in contract-p1-3.pdf and contract-p5.pdf, and when there are several results, they come as a single contract-split.zip. An extraction into one file is saved as contract-extracted.pdf.

You can add one PDF at a time. We recommend up to 200 MB on desktop and 50 MB on mobile. Going over the recommendation shows a warning, but you can still continue. Files over 500 MB are not processed.

  • Example 1 · One file per range

    ten-10p.pdf (10 pages, 4 KB) · page ranges 1-3, 5, 8-10 · One file per range (default)

Measured in Chrome on desktop · test PDF with one large label per page

    → ten-10p-split.zip · ten-10p-p1-3.pdf (3 pages, 1 KB), ten-10p-p5.pdf (1 page, 721 B), ten-10p-p8-10.pdf (3 pages, 1 KB)

  • Example 2 · Extract into one file

    ten-10p.pdf (10 pages) · Extract into one file · page ranges 1-3, 5, 8-10 / 8-

Measured in Chrome on desktop · test PDF with one large label per page

    → ten-10p-extracted.pdf · 1-3, 5, 8-10 gives 7 pages · 8- gives 3 pages (pages 8, 9 and 10)

  • Example 3 · Split every page

    ten-10p.pdf (10 pages) · Split every page

Measured in Chrome on desktop · test PDF with one large label per page

    → 10 PDFs (ten-10p-p1.pdf to ten-10p-p10.pdf) in a single ZIP

Example figures vary by file and device.

Options explained

Page ranges
Enter the pages to split, separated by commas or spaces. Write a single page like 5, a start and end like 1-3, or just a start page like 8- to go from that page to the end. Pages are numbered from 1. Full-width digits are read as regular digits, and -, 〜, ~ and ~ are read as a regular -, so 1〜3 extracts the same 3 pages as 1-3. If you enter a page that isn't in the document, “This document ends at page N” appears below the field; if you enter a range backwards like 3-1, you'll see “The start page is after the end page”. While the field is empty, [Start] can't be pressed.
One file per range
The default. Each comma-separated range becomes its own PDF. Entering 1-3, 5, 8-10 creates three PDFs (pages 1–3, page 5 and pages 8–10), which you get together in a ZIP named after the original with -split added. Good for separating the main body of a contract from its attachments.
Extract into one file
Collects the pages in your ranges into a single PDF, in the order you entered them. A page entered twice is included only once. Entering 5, 1-3 puts page 5 first, so you can also use this to reorder pages as you extract them.
Split every page
Splits every page into its own one-page PDF, with no ranges to enter. The results are numbered by page, like contract-p1.pdf, contract-p2.pdf…, and packed into one ZIP. Useful for breaking a scanned batch into single pages.
What carries over
This isn't a setting you can turn on or off; it always works the same way. The selected pages are copied as they are, so page rotation and annotations are kept, but bookmarks and form fields are not carried over. The result's document properties (title, author and so on) are also left empty.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDFs sent to a server?

No. Splitting happens inside this browser and your files are never sent off your device. To check it yourself, follow the steps on the How it works page.

How do I enter a range up to the last page?

Just add - after the start page. Entering 8- for the 10-page test file extracted 3 pages: 8, 9 and 10. You can take off the end of a document without knowing how many pages it has.

Can I extract pages in a different order?

“Extract into one file” collects pages in the order you enter them. Entering 5, 1-3 gives pages 5, 1, 2 and 3 in that order, and if pages overlap, only the first occurrence is included. “One file per range” makes a separate file for each range, with the pages inside each range in their original order.

It says “This document ends at page 10”.

That means you entered a page number that isn't in the document. Entering 12 for the 10-page test file shows this message below the field, and [Start] can't be pressed. If the start page is greater than the end page, as in 3-1, it isn't changed to 1-3; you'll see “The start page is after the end page” instead.

Can I split password-protected PDFs?

No. Adding a password-protected PDF shows “Password-protected PDFs can't be processed”. Remove the password and add it again. Even a PDF that doesn't ask for a password when you open it may show the same message if it has a password restricting printing or editing.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages aren't turned into images; the text and images inside the PDF are copied as they are, so quality doesn't change. Bookmarks and form fields, however, are not carried over.

How it works · Engine · Notes

  • Processed in: this browser (your device)
  • Engine: pdf-lib (MIT) · PDF.js (page thumbnails) (Apache-2.0)
  • Splitting runs inside this browser with pdf-lib, and files are not sent to a server.
  • Rotation and annotations on the selected pages are kept; bookmarks and form fields are not carried over.
  • The result's document properties (title, author and so on) are left empty.
  • Page previews are drawn with PDF.js only for the pages visible on screen, for display only, and don't affect the result files.
