How to use

Each result keeps the original name with the new extension, as in logo.png → logo.webp, and several images come as a single images-converted.zip. Because a converted file can normally end up larger than the original, the tool shows the original and result sizes side by side instead of a reduction percentage.
You can add up to 50 images at a time. We recommend up to 25 MB per image on desktop and 10 MB on mobile. Files over 100 MB each are not processed.

Options explained
- Convert to
- Chooses the format of the result: JPG (default), PNG, WebP or AVIF. Pick JPG if it has to open anywhere, PNG to keep a transparent background or to store the image without losing any more quality, and WebP or AVIF to make files smaller for web pages. If you pick the same format as the original, you're told so and the image is saved again. If your goal is a smaller file, the Compress Image tool is a better fit.
- Quality
- Sets how strongly JPG, WebP and AVIF output is compressed, from 0 to 100. The default is 85 for JPG and WebP and 60 for AVIF. PNG is a lossless format, so it has no quality setting. Lower it for smaller files; raise it if text or lines look smudged.
- Fill transparent areas
- JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the color you choose: White (default), Black or Custom (any color you pick). This option appears only when converting to JPG. When you convert to PNG, WebP or AVIF, transparent areas stay transparent.
- Animated GIF and WebP
- For animated GIFs and WebPs, only the first frame is converted, as a single still image, with the note “Animated image: only the first frame was converted”. There's no way to keep the animation when converting.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images sent to a server?
No. Conversion happens inside this browser and your files are never sent off your device. To check it yourself, follow the steps on the How it works page.
What's the difference between WebP and AVIF?
Both are web formats designed to be smaller than JPG, and both support transparency. AVIF is usually smaller at the same visual quality, but it can take longer to create and may not open in older programs or browsers. Converting the test image (4000×3000 JPG, 4.0 MB) at default quality gave 1.8 MB for WebP (85) and 532 KB for AVIF (60). If you don't know which formats the recipient supports, JPG is the safest choice.
The file got bigger after converting.
Depending on the format, that can be normal. PNG is lossless, so turning a photo into PNG makes it much larger (with the test image, a 4.0 MB JPG became a 10.9 MB PNG). Saving again at a higher quality than the original can also make a file bigger. That's why this tool shows only the original and result sizes, without a reduction percentage. To make files smaller, use the Compress Image tool.
Can I convert animated GIFs?
Only the first frame is converted, as a single image. The same goes for animated WebP. The result carries the note “Animated image: only the first frame was converted”.
Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes. Add a HEIC photo and it's converted to whichever of JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF you choose. The photo's orientation is applied, and for a HEIC file containing several images, only the primary image is converted. If you only need JPG, you can also use the HEIC to JPG tool.
What happens to location data and colors?
The EXIF orientation is applied to the pixels and then removed, and metadata such as shooting location (GPS) and device info is left out of the result. Colors are converted to sRGB, so photos taken in Display P3 may look slightly different.
